The Wiarton area is surrounded by nature and great for senior retirement communities. Georgian Bay provides visitors with endless water experiences, and the surrounding parks & conservation areas mean there are endless options for hiking and nature gazing. The area is renown for its wildflowers & orchids, and there are some fantastic gardens in the area to visit. The famous Bruce Trails runs through the waterfront of Wiarton which you could enjoy a lovely hike to Spirit Rock Conservation Area, there is also a mountain bike park just 10 minutes north of Wiarton.  The Bruce Peninsula is also a fantastic place in the winter, when the area comes alive with snowmobilers, who come to experience the great trails that run north and south of Wiarton.  Also enjoy some excellent ski trails nearby with your choice of groomed or choose to ski or snowshoe on the Bruce Trail whatever your preference.

Bluewater Park is beautiful winter and summer with the perfect Victorian train station and the white stone sculpture of Wiarton’s most famous resident, Wiarton Willie who fuels Wiarton’s international recognition, as part of the Wiarton Willie Festival held in March which can run as long as 5 days.  There is a boat launch and long dock for fishing, strolling or watching the sunrise over the escarpment and clean water.

Healthcare

Wiarton Hospital, built in 1994, is part of the 6 hospitals that make up Grey Bruce Health Services.  Wiarton and the Town of South Bruce Peninsula has numerous health care facilities to serve the senior retirement communities. They are fortunate to have a diverse and professional medical community that includes skilled Physicians to serve an aging senior living population, along with first-class medical facilities.

The Grey-Bruce Regional Health Centre, located in Owen Sound, is the area’s largest and most well-equipped facility. This regional hospital serves as a base educational and training hospital, and acts as the regional referral centre for Grey and Bruce counties with over 50 specialists on staff.

Nursing Services for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula are available through VON (Victoria Order of Nurses), Para Med Home Health Care, Olsten Health Services, and Care Partners which are all administrated in Owen Sound.

There are facilities that provide a continuum of care with everything from acute hospital care, to retirement homes, assisted living residences and long-term care in a nursing home.  For those requiring additional care and assistance, Home Care services of all types are available in the community.
